Anna Faris nearly quit acting in 2021.

The 49-year-old actress has revealed that she contemplated her future in the business, after appearing in Mom, the TV sitcom, between 2013 and 2021.

Appearing on the Dear Chelsea podcast, Anna shared: "I didn’t know what my ambition [was]. I didn’t know where I stood, what opportunity there was."

On reflection, Anna now believes that she was experiencing some mental health issues at the time.

The actress said: "I was, in hindsight, I think pretty depressed, like, premenopausal depression without recognising it.

"I was just having a distant relationship with this city and my career and wondering if I had enough money to retire."

However, Anna was subsequently invited to reprise the role of Cindy Campbell in the most-recent Scary Movie film, and that experience reignited her passion for acting.

The Hollywood star - who appeared in Scary Movie alongside Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Regina Hall - explained: "Suddenly I had this rush of like, what if my destiny hasn’t quite forged itself in slow aging actress retirement? It was a very wonderful and heady year for me."

Anna has rediscovered her sense of self-confidence and self-worth, too.

She said: "I feel more confident in what I have to offer, which might not be, I don’t know, for a wide audience. But I feel more solid in my own ability. I wish I had realised that earlier."

Meanwhile, Anna stars in the new comedy movie Spa Weekend alongside Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, and Michelle Buteau.

And the actress previously described the Spa Weekend shoot as a "dream".

She told Extra: "We had the opportunity to shoot this movie in Australia on the Gold Coast. It was like 82 degrees every day. We're shooting by the ocean."

Anna particularly enjoyed the experience of working with the film's star-studded cast.

The actress - whose previous film credits include The House Bunny and Lost in Translation - said: "I’m working with women that I find hysterical and that I love."

Anna - who has son Jack, 14, with ex-husband Chris Pratt - relished the opportunity to develop close, lasting friendships with some of her co-stars, acknowledging that it's a rare experience on a film set.

The movie star said: "I finally got to make and nurture new friendships … It was through work that I got to know and admire and love these women every day."
